The motor is loud.I bought this toy for my cat. But, he just wasn't interested in it. It was too large and not fast enough. The cat loves chasing it and it provides a ton of activityThis has to be one of the best and laziest ways to play with a cat!First off, let me just say that this thing is definitely not mouse sized. It is more the size of a rat being that it is about 10-7/8 inches long with the tail, about 5-7/8 inches long without the tail, and about 2-1/2 inches tall at the highest point and about 3-3/8 inches at its widest point. When I first saw the size of this mouse/rat, I wasn't so sure if our cat would like it or not. It turns out that not only does our cat likes it but she likes it a lot!The remote only has two buttons; a forward and a back button. I don't have precise control over the steering but in this case, it works great. It causes the mouse/rat to kinda move in the sporadic and crazy way that a real mouse/rat would move.Besides a cat toy, this mouse/rat is obviously also great for pranks. My kiddos scared the socks off of my poor mother-in-law after my wife who was also in a pranking mood told my mother-in-law as she entered our house that we were having a rat problem right as my kids made the mouse/rat zip by!As fun as this toy has been, though, there are a few downsides that I need to mention. I must mention that the build quality of the mouse/rat is not really bad but it is not that great either so I dont know how long it will last over time. The remote that comes with the mouse/rat is terribly cheap in terms of design and build quality and sometimes it doesn't work as well as it should.I also noticed that this mouse/rat uses 3 AAA batteries & and the remote uses 2 AA batteries so this thing will definitely eat through some batteries over time depending on usage. This leads me to the one overall improvement that would definitely make this toy better: being rechargeable. All minor negatives aside though, this is definitely a fun, odd, and multipurpose toy. Who would have known that it would be so much fun playing with a mouse/rat!Other than scaring my dog and my car having zero interest in this toy, it's kind of fun to drive around. It uses the old school 2 button remote where one button moves forward and the other reverses and turns. So it's not the easiest thing to control, especially on hard flooring where it's so fast that it spins out a lot and seems to go in whatever direction it wants to.Range isn't very good and you need to be within 10 feet or so for it to respond to the remote. The fact that neither of my pets are interested in playing with this kind of takes the fun out of it for me but some pets may enjoy chasing this giant mouse (it's more like a rat) around the house. Can't drive on thick carpeting, and doesn't work well on smooth floors, but I still had fun playing with it and I bring it out sometimes to scare people who come over to visit. It's a good idea but more of a novelty than an actual pet toy that my cat can have fun playing with. The controller malfunctioned in the first 10-15 minutes of use and hasn't been right since. The cat was pretty scared of it at first. He eventually chased it a few times and then lost interest. It is very cheesy looking for the price. I think he would much rather be in the barn hunting the real mice/rats. There is no way I would ever pay $17.99 for this garbage. I would maybe be willing to pay $4.00 but that is even stretching it considering how poor the quality is. It was free for my review and I am glad.My cat usually loves motorized toys, however, this toy is on the bigger end. It is truly the size of a rat or even bigger. It requires AAA batteries in the mouse part and AA in the remote, which I found kind of odd. If someone doesn't have batteries on hand they will have to buy two different types. Also, there are times that you push the button, and the mouse gets stuck. Not sure if it is because it's out of range or not. It goes backward and forwards but does not allow you to control direction. My little dog did not like the mouse so much, so I recommend it for a cat!.Easy to steer because when you go in reverse, it curves then straightens out on forward motion. It looks like a real rat from afar. The remote control is easy to use and the mouse has on on-off switch to save battery life. Its a little noisy so quiet sneak attacks will not work.
